How I Joined the Toronto Music Scene with Zero Connections

I was a secret musician. For years, I made music alone in my bedroom for no one to hear.

This all changed 2 years ago.

I realized that if I truly wanted to grow as an artist, I had to stop isolating myself and start connecting with others. The only problem? I had no real creative network—just a few jam sessions with close friends.

Admitting I needed help was the first step. This led me to reach out to a fellow musician on LinkedIn (shoutout to Caj Flow), who introduced me to Beatcave—a Toronto-based music community hosting bi-monthly workshops and events around sync licensing, PR, music marketing, and more.

Since then, I’ve:

  • Participated in songwriting camps
  • Collaborated with new artists
  • Performed live
  • Built meaningful creative relationships

These experiences were only possible because I took a leap and opened myself up to community. Everyone’s path is different—but I believe it always starts with connection.

I don’t know exactly where this journey will lead. But I’m grateful I started. Sometimes, that’s the most important step.
